Example workflow

Use JPG for an ordinary photo when the destination accepts it. For a transparent logo, choose PNG or a compatible WebP export. Converting changes the encoded format; changing a filename extension does not.

Check your result

JPG cannot retain transparency. Inspect the flattened background and fine edges after conversion. A PNG export does not restore detail lost in an earlier JPG, and some receiving websites still reject WebP.
